Thallus thin to thick, plane to slightly bullate, dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, yellowish white to whitish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia sessile, 0.4–1.0 mm diam.; disc pale yellow to pale red-brown or grey-brown, not or slightly whitish grey-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin, entire, ±verrucose to verruculose. Cortex hyaline, ±gelatinous, inspersed with small crystals, distinct, 10–15 µm thick laterally and 20–25 (–35) µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, without crystals, 10–15 µm thick. Epihymenium dark grey-brown to dark red-brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals (chlarotera-type); pigmentation rapidly dissolving in KOH. Hymenium and subhymenium hyaline. Hypothecium yellowish to hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 10.0–13.5 × 5.0–7.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C+ red, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), 3,5-dichloro-2’-O-methylanziaic acid (major), chloroatranorin (minor),
5-chloro-2’-O-methylanziaic acid (minor), 3,5-dichloro-2’-O-methylnorhyperlatolic acid (minor) and 3,5-dichloro-2’-O-methylstenosporic acid (minor).

Occurs on bark in areas of winter rainfall in south-western W.A. The overall distribution of L. lividocinerea is poorly known; it has also been reported from the western part of Mediterranean Europe and North Africa.
